Motel Tariffs vs. AirBnB Tariffs in Australia
Motel tariffs vs. AirBnB tariffs in Australia based on local standard context. Having a quick research on tariffs on AirBnB at the last minute limited us not to choose it as our final option. The pros and cons will depend on everyone’s budgets, needs or luxuries, experiences, culture attitudes and expectations. Each country has their accommodation styles and tariffs daily, weekly, short or long term stays. In Australia, we are going to compare particular Motel tariffs vs. AirBnB tariffs in Canberra or NSW location that we have recently travelled and stayed.
Accommodation Definition of Terms:
Motel or Inn in Australia “It offers sole occupancy of a room which typically consists of a bedroom and attached ensuite. Motels are designed more for the motorist in mind, usually providing adequate parking”. [1] Motel or Inn services are with or without Bed and Breakfast. Some can be self-contained motels similar to a self-contained cottages accommodation.
AirBnB means virtual Bed and Breakfast “It’s a trusted community marketplace for people to list, discover, and book unique accommodations around the world — online or from a mobile phone. Whether an apartment for a night, a castle for a week, or a villa for a month, AirBnB connects people to unique travel experiences, at any price point, in more than 33,000 cities and 192 countries. And with world-class customer service and a growing community of users, AirBnB is the easiest way for people to monetize their extra space and showcase it to an audience of millions.” [2]
There are also other AirBnB similar currently operating websites aside this trendy one as I write. If we would have done deeper research or explore more details on AirBnB in Canberra areas we could have got a better deal of accommodation tariffs besides searching motels at Yass Valley Way, New South Wales.
Real story-based Travel Accommodation review:
*2 adult couple or 4 adults for a week travel to Canberra/NSW, Australia only
*Adults are from the Silent Generation (born 1925 through 1942), Baby Boomer Generation (1946 up to 1964), and Generation X (early 1960s to the early 1980s) by the western world marketing terms.
*Flexible itinerary plan after significant date attended
*Wi-Fi connection and cooking utensils are on top of our list.
Our first-time experience travels to Canberra our national capital city backyard. This travel is our flexible personal itinerary plan. We booked in a motel at dinner time in about one hour drive to our primary destination as our second option due to rerouting our directions for the day driving from Victoria to New South Wales before midnight. We decided to stay out of town at least one-hour distance drive before our primary destination when possible since our prospected closer accommodations fully booked for that week that suits our budget and needs. Before our booking the business operator mentioned that our room are not renovated yet so they are giving a discount price from $170 to $150 a night that accommodates 4 to 6 people.
Photo-screenshot #1 Review from the motel we stayed showing the edited tariff for a night we paid and similar bedroom photo we’ve stayed. I thought they have photos ready on their website so I did not bother photoshoots. The room is great set-up (Standard 2 Bedroom Unit with Queen/Single beds each room) for two couple to live for three days despite the very first-night shocking room service we have experienced especially for our Silent Generation and Baby Boomer parents. Ironically, our Silent Generation dad did not appreciate the first-night unchanged bed sheets service which is understandably shocking from the business owners. Next morning he sounds reiterating and annoying if we’re going to complain to the manager about their poor room service last night after we already: said: “yes many times, even without him requesting”. We tried explaining we are going to review them on TripAdvisor.com to calm him down, and he would say “how would the owner check online to read them?” we replied “there are accommodation managers that genuinely respond to reviews if you read online. He also added he would complain straight away if he’s the one who paid it well not a “silent generation” after all! Furthermore review of this motel linked on TripAdvisor.com (I will link here later). Unfortunately, we still have to ask the WiFi connection password the next day so we could have read TripAdvisor stuff on our laptop to show and tell what we are discussing about with the silent generation 🙂 [3]
Photo-screenshots #2 Preview for a generous example of AirBnB private home to rent for one week or night not only in Canberra but around the world. There are more private home accommodations in Canberra, but we would like to stay this particular home if we had the chance to book in earlier. [4]
Conclusion:
Motel tariffs vs. AirBnB tariffs in Australia accommodation or anywhere in the world are everyone’s flexibility in their life’s journey. The key is always to research prior online travelling. Read the travellers’ reviews online of motel and Airbnb accommodations for peace of mind. Hunt significant savings for your getaway whether that’s for short or long term stay. If the motel doesn’t have a review, be the first! Some motels, hotels, and resorts do respond to traveller’s positive and negative reviews, and that is a social tourism in our dot-com generation.
PROS of AirBnB tariffs: Budget-wise you can find a private home that may suit for you otherwise! Offering local tariffs per stay are expecting more value regarding quality service in comparison with regular motels or hotels cost of duty.
PROS of Motel tariffs: Sometimes you get great motel service that exceeds your expectations. Our digital world offers broader knowledge of ever traveller’s review on particular accommodation. There are also budget accommodations or discount prices on low and high peak seasons if you search both the internet and the RACV accommodation printed book you can buy from RACV shop in Australia.
CONS of AirBnB tariffs: There’s a fee to use AirBnB website on top of your accommodation of choice. Expectations are higher sometimes than in motels as you’re staying in someone’s private homes. There are private home owners that are not competing with hotels and motels high market tariffs; therefore search selectively. If you live in developing countries, the private homeowners should base their pricing locally. The price range should not be the same with the developed countries’ dollars market on AirBnB as we have found on their web pages, this would attract more travellers and tourists locally and experience economically than they never experience in their home backyards travel.
CONS of Motel tariffs: Expecting a high standard service not being met. Sometimes you don’t get what you paid. Also, watch out for those Silent Generation lol?
What are your pros and cons travel experiences out there? Which is your preference? A motel or Airbnb, why? Don’t forget to mention what generation you are also referring.
